The Purpose of the Professional Designation Program:

Wisconsin Land Title Association (WLTA) is a professional association dedicated to supporting its members efforts to provide quality land title and settlement services. In support of that mission, WLTA has created the Wisconsin Land Title Professional (WLTP) designation.

Designees include those persons who have demonstrated a knowledge of land title insurance through education, experience and participation. The WLTP is designed to:

Establish the highest level of title professional designation in Wisconsin.
Motivate title insurance professionals to excel in the performance of their duties and responsibilities.
Promote the characteristics of professionalism by encouraging loyalty and a sense of an obligation to serve and contribute to the welfare of the land title industry and the Wisconsin Land Title Association.
Recognize and reward those title professionals who fulfill the standards required for education, experience and participation from the WLTP Council and the WLTA.
The WLTP represents a level of educational standard by completing the 6 WLTA Title Examiner Courses.
The WLTP has demonstrated professionalism in the completion of the required components of education.

Benefits of Achievement

The WLTP designation is intended to establish a distinguishable skill set and establishes a 'bar' of knowledge.

The WLTP is intended to increase the credibility of the designee in the industry. Now more than ever this is important – companies are at risk of not being able to demonstrate their ongoing training and education as essential through Industry Best Practices.

The benefits listed above are in no way intended to be a recommendation on the part of the Wisconsin Land Title Association for anyone holding a WLTP designation.

Wisconsin Land Title Professional Council

WLTA Bylaws: Article VIII WLTA Committees
Section 4. Wisconsin Land Title Professional Council

The Wisconsin Land Title Professional (WLTP) Council shall be formed for the purpose of approving WLTP designations, reviewing and recommending changes to the designation criteria and process to the WLTA Board of Directors, and approving renewal applications and designation revocation.

The WLTP Council shall be comprised of 3 members of the Wisconsin Land Title Association, at least one of whom must also be a member of the Board of Directors, as follows:

One Underwriter representative
One Agent representative
One Underwriter or Agent representative that has the WLTP designation

Appointments:
WLTP Council members shall be appointed by the WLTA President and approved by the WLTA Board of Directors within a reasonable time after he or she shall assume office.

Term:
The term of each WLTP Council member shall be from the appointment until the close of the next Annual Convention of the WLTA.

Vacancies:
In the event of a vacancy, the WLTA President shall appoint a new Council member to fill the balance of the vacated term subject to approval by the WLTA Board of Directors. When selecting the new Council member, the President shall select someone who fills the same slot as the vacating person (i.e.: Underwriter, Agent, or WLTP designation Representative).

Requirements for Application:

Applicants for the professional designation of “Wisconsin Land Title Professional” (WLTP) must meet the following requirements:

Be an employee or owner of an Active Member or of an Associate Member of the Wisconsin Land Title Association (WLTA) in good standing at the time of application.
Have a current Wisconsin Title Intermediary License or have attended the WLTA Pre-Licensing Course within the last 4 (four) years. If applicant has a current Wisconsin Title Intermediary License, they must not have had a title license suspended or revoked by the State of Wisconsin or any other State or governmental authority for a period in excess of 1 (one) calendar year in the past 5 (five) years and they must submit a copy of their license with application.
Be a Graduate of all 6 (six) levels of the WLTA Title Examiner Courses.
Demonstrate meaningful participation in the land title professional community within the last 2 (two) years, including, but not limited to, the following: WLTA educational events; WLTA Conferences or Conventions; WLTA Committees; WLTA Board of Directors; American Land Title Association (ALTA) events, committees, or board of directors; WLTA or ALTA advocacy activities; or other professional education opportunities. Subject to review and approval by the WLTP Council.
Complete and submit an application and application fee of $150 to the Wisconsin Land Title Association.
Be approved by the WLTP Council upon receipt and review of the requirements shown above.

Requirements for Renewal:

Submit the Designation Renewal Form, together with the renewal fee of $100, every 2 (two) years from initial application year by August 31st. Applicant for renewal must meet WLTA Membership criteria and complete the following: attest to recent attendance or participation in professional education opportunities through WLTA or ALTA, and continued meaningful participation in the land title professional community. Renewal applications will be subject to review and approval by the WLTP Council. The WLTP Council will review and approve renewal applications prior to the WLTA Annual Convention of each year. Renewal is the sole responsibility of the designee. WLTA and the WLTP Council shall not be held liable for non-renewals.

Designee Achievement & Award:

The WLTP designation serves as the definitive "diploma" for our industry because it fills a critical professional void. In the title industry, there is no traditional college degree or universal academic pathway to certify expertise. The WLTP designation stands alone as the highest benchmark of formal recognition, proving a professional possesses advanced expertise regarding Wisconsin land title. To hold this credential signifies that you have moved far beyond on-the-job experience and have successfully graduated from a rigorous, comprehensive evaluation of industry knowledge.

Approved Designees are entitled to receive:

Use of the official title of “Wisconsin Land Title Professional”.
A WLTP plaque recognizing their official initial designation.
Recognition at WLTA events, in WLTA communications, and on WLTA website.

As of September 2026, WLTP designation meets the ALTA criteria for National Title Professional (NTP) “State/Regional Land Title Association Professional Certification or Designation,” which is one of the criteria for NTP. Application for ALTA’s NTP is a separate certification/designation not affiliated with WLTA and application for NTP is the sole responsibility of the designee. All questions regarding NTP must be directed to ALTA.

Non-Renewal & Re-Instatement:

Renewal is the sole responsibility of the designee. WLTA and the WLTP Council shall not be held liable for non-renewals. See Requirements for Renewal on page 4 of the printable pdf.

Anyone who does not comply with the renewal process and policies is no longer considered a WLTP designee and must discontinue using the WLTP associated with their name in any fashion.

If WLTP is not officially renewed by the expiration date, a fee of $150, together with the Designation Renewal Form, is required to reinstate the designation and final decisions regarding reinstatement are at the sole discretion of the WLTP Council.

Revocation of Designation:

The WLTP Council can recommend the revocation of an individual’s designation to the WLTA Board. Approval of a revocation of an individual’s designation shall be by a majority vote of the Board.

Appeal of Denied WLTP Designation:

If the WLTP Council denies an application (initial or renewal) or revokes a designation, the affected individual may file a written appeal with the WLTA principal office. The WLTA Board of Directors will review the appeal at its next meeting following receipt. The WLTP Council's decision will be affirmed or reversed by a majority vote of the Board.

Updating Designee's Contact Information:

Designees must update any changes in name, address, phone, email or other contact information as well as changes in employment within 30 days. Changes must be brought to the attention of the WLTA Association office (contact information is on page 2 of the printable PDF).
